reflections on 2 Corinthians 3:4-6
2 Corinthians 3:4-6
“Such is the confidence that we have through Christ toward God. Not that we are sufficient in ourselves to claim anything as coming from us, but our sufficiency is from God, who has made us sufficient to be ministers of a new covenant, not of the letter but of the Spirit. For the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life.”
This passage from Paul to the Corinthians has been an encouragement to me throughout my time at Wheaton. I can easily become production-oriented, measuring my time and value based on how busy I am and what I can show for it. I think I can do it all, that I am sufficient in myself. But Christ has done all things for us already, and by giving our lives to Him, we allow Him to be all we need. When I get caught up in the school work that needs to be done and the relationships that need to be poured into, this passage reminds me that I am a vessel of God’s new covenant with us through Christ. We are bestowed grace and life through Him who is all-sufficient for us.
